Welcome to St. Barnabas Catholic School!

Greetings and a warm welcome to the St. Barnabas Catholic School Website.

St. Barnabas is a National Blue Ribbon School located in Northfield, Ohio. Our surrounding communities include Macedonia, Northfield Center, Northfield Township, and Sagamore Hills.

It is our pleasure to share with you a brief overview of our school. We have over 600 students with a 3 and 4 year old preschool program and three classrooms of each grade level, K-8. There are classroom aides in all of our primary classrooms preschool to third grade. We have over 40 licensed professional educators and over 80 total staff here at St. Barnabas School. We are blessed to have three active priests on the parish staff, who are involved in parish life and the school. The school holds annual all school retreats, as well as grade level retreats. The whole school attends Mass on Fridays at 8:30 a.m. Parents are encouraged to attend and sit with their children, as grade levels rotate their participation in the Liturgy.

Our Learning Center is fully staffed with an auxiliary clerk, speech & language pathologist, school counselor, intervention specialist, remedial reading/math teacher and a gifted teacher (Roots & Wings Program for students in grades 3-8). We utilize the Response to Intervention Program (RTI). We offer our students many after school activities (found under the heading “Student Life”), an extraordinary athletic program (SBAA), and an active PTU. Unique elective offerings for our junior high students include cooking, life skills, peer tutoring, Spanish 3D animation, study skills and relaxation are offered during the school day.

Our students participate in National History Day, Science Olympiad, Ohio Mathematics League, Academic Challenge, Catholic Math League, Math Counts, Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contests, Maltz Museum “Stop the Hate” essay contest, Geography Bee, Summit County Child and Family Awareness Creative Poster/Slogan Contest…just to list a few. Please refer to “Student Life” on our website for a complete listing of offerings.

As a Catholic, faith-filled community we are committed to serving others. We do this through various service projects such as LifeStraws, Freerice.com, raising money for school supplies in El Salvador, donating to local food pantries, collecting needed items for local agencies, supporting awareness such as Diabetes, Autism, and persons with Down Syndrome (Upside of Downs). Our staff spent a day at Hattie Larlham’s facilities, which supports persons with developmental disabilities. We also conduct monthly service projects within grade levels. Our students and staff model, live, and understand what true service means.

According to the St. Barnabas School Philosophy…
  • We believe in teaching our children to recognize their God-given gifts and, as stewards of the Gospel values, in providing them with the ability to see God in themselves and others and the courage to act with compassion and justice as Disciples of Christ.
  • We believe in the pursuit of excellence in all academic disciplines.
  • We believe in promoting an atmosphere of wellness and wholeness through a variety of instructional, extra-curricular, and athletic programs.
